Those are among the findings in USA Today’s annual look at NCAA Division I public school spending on sports, based on data from 2015 to 2016. The No. 1 school on the list is the University of Texas, which spent $171 million on its sports programs and brought in $188 million in revenue. No. 2 is Ohio State, which spent $167 million and had $171 million in revenue, and No. 3 is the University of Michigan, which spent $158 million and had revenue of $164 million. Here you can see how much all 230 universities spent. On the whole, the schools spent an average of 8.8% more on athletics-related financial aid in 2015 to 2016, compared with the year before. And they spent 5% more on coaching compensation, compared with 7.6% the year before. Other expenses that went down last year were team travel, game-day operations, as well as equipment and uniforms.via
